Student Charges

Cost of Care

Student Health and Wellness provides care for all UVA students that pay the comprehensive fees with their tuition. There is no charge for visits with care providers as they have been pre-paid with tuition as mandatory fees. However, there are charges for medications, lab tests, supplies for certain treatments, immunizations and allergy injections, and copies of your medical record. If you visit the UVA Emergency Department when Student Health and Wellness is closed, your insurance will be billed, and you will be responsible for the balance. *All UVA students, regardless of credit hours, are eligible to receive services from the Student Disability Access Center free of charge.

No-Show Policy

Students are requested to contact Student Health and Wellness as soon as possible if they are unable to keep their appointment. If the appointment is with CAPS, it must be cancelled by 8am on the day of the scheduled appointment. All other appointments must be cancelled at least one hour prior to the scheduled appointment time. If Student Health does not hear from the student within those timeframes, the student will owe a $25 “No Show” charge.

Submitting Charges to Insurance

Your walkout statement is a receipt for services provided by Student Health and Wellness. It contains the information you need to obtain reimbursement from your insurance plan, specifically physician name, diagnosis code(s), date of service, type(s) of service, and payment. You may also obtain a copy of your statement through the Healthy Hoos Patient Portal.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have the University of Virginia’s endorsed Aetna Student Health Plan we are able to file claims for applicable Student Health and Wellness charges.

To obtain reimbursement from your insurance plan, we suggest:

  • Call the customer service number on your insurance card and request a claim form
  • Complete the claim form and attach it to your walkout statement from Student Health & Wellness
  • Send the claim form and walkout statement to your insurance company for reimbursement consideration (Coverage varies depending on plan benefits; Student Health and Wellness has no say or control over reimbursements)
  • Make a copy for your records
