Our services provides several tools that support a wide variety of needs and incorporate the principles of universal design. Individual users are able to interact with the technology in ways that work best for them. Accessible technology includes any piece of equipment, product or system that is used to improve the functional capacities of people with disabilities.
Technology Available at UVA
Some of the listed options are openly available to the University community, or rely on your personal device capabilitites. Quantities of some equipment and software are limited; in such situations, these will be prioritized for those with documented access-related needs and marked with (SDAC) next to their name to indicate you need to contact SDAC's Assistive Technology Specialist with questions, concerns, or for support.

Otter is a tool that converts voice conversations into smart notes by recording the audio and using artificial intelligence to provide machine-generated transcription. These transcriptions/notes can be edited, shared, and easily searched.Learn More About Otter - Glean Audio NoteTaker (SDAC)
A notetaking technology that records the audio from class lectures into your laptop or mobile app with features that include easy audio navigation, audio highlighting, and slides/image importing. Sonocent also offers an introductory video, if you would like more information on how it works. - Livescribe Smartpen (SDAC)
The smartpen is a ballpoint pen with an embedded computer and digital audio recorder. When used with Livescribe digital paper, it records what it writes for later uploading to a computer and synchronizes those notes with any audio it has recorded.

SDAC is excited to announce a new UVA partner, Sensus Access! This amazing program allows for 24/7 automatic digital conversion to accessible media. Do you want something changed from an image-only PDF to a readable PDF? Put it through Sensus Access, and get it back via email! Would you prefer it in mp3, so you can take it on the go? It does that too! What about BRF? Of course! Different languages? There are so many to choose from. Give it a try. it's a fantastic, versatile program.
