Bio
Sonya Brooks joined The Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) in October 2022 and is an accessibility specialist. In her role, she strives to promote a culture of access and inclusion for students with disabilities. Her job includes approving accommodations, providing support services, and advocating for students across UVA’s schools.
Prior to coming to UVA, Sonya was a special education teacher and case manager for seven years in the K-12 system here in Charlottesville. She is dually endorsed as both a Special Education Teacher and as a Teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages. During her time, she earned several grants and helped pilot curriculum initiatives.
Sonya earned both her BA and MT from the University of Virginia.
