Medical Services at Student Health and Wellness offers a 10-month medical scribe program that is ideal for students pursuing health careers who are taking a gap year between undergraduate and graduate education. Scribes are essential members of our healthcare team and work directly with patients under the supervision of licensed medical staff.
Scribes gain experience by medical transcribing for clinical visits, performing phlebotomy, conducting point-of-care testing, and proctoring COVID-19 tests. Scribes receive exposure to various clinical services such as general medicine, dermatology, nutrition, travel medicine, gender-affirming care, and mental healthcare.

What Staff are Saying
I love having a scribe! I think it enhances the experience working at Student Health and Wellness and gives an opportunity as a provider to teach someone. - Paige Nolte, MD [Pictured above]
“I like scribing because I learn a lot of new medical information. In addition, being a part of the patient-medical professional interaction is a great experience.” – David, Scribe 2023-24 [pictured on left]
“The scribe program was an amazing opportunity to work alongside many different members of the Student Health and Wellness healthcare team and explore the many different roles that are integral to providing patient care. From scribing to phlebotomy to even helping with research and vaccination events, this program allowed me to gain invaluable hands-on experience working with patients in an incredibly supportive environment. I learned so much from my fellow scribes, the nursing staff, the NPs, physicians, and so many others during my time here. I continue to use the skills I picked up from this program now – skills that would undoubtedly serve me well as I go on to medical school this year!” – Christy, Scribe 2022-23
“Never knew how much scribing would help my future in medicine until I realized I would hear Dr. Keeley’s voice in my head while taking exams.” – Rebecca, Scribe 2022-23
