Laura Kirkland, MSW, MA

Laura Kirkland relocated to Charlottesville and joined CAPS in 2019. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston as well as a M.A. in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. She received a B.S. in Mathematics from Greensboro College. Laura has 10+ years of experience supporting student success within a variety of college environments. As a CAPS Care Manager, she helps students access resources to navigate complex personal challenges and guides them to become empowered self-advocates. In her clinical practice, she incorporates approaches and techniques from a range of treatment modalities including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Laura practices self-care through mindfulness, gratitude, reading, exercising, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
