Bio

Elise is a licensed clinical psychologist who joined CAPS as a staff psychotherapist in 2022. Prior to this, Elise was an Associate Professor at Miami University. She is excited to return to Charlottesville, having earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UVA in 2010. In addition, Elise received her B.A. from Northwestern University, and she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University in Alcohol and Addiction Studies. Working closely with students is at the heart of Elise's professional identity, and she has expertise in a broad range of clinical issues including anxiety disorders, OCD, body image concerns, substance use, and interpersonal challenges. Elise's clinical work is primarily grounded in cognitive and behavioral therapies, including approaches that integrate acceptance, flexibility, and values. She strives to conceptualize risk and resilience within the context of one's life experiences and identities, and she is committed to creating an inclusive environment that decreases barriers to help-seeking. Outside of work, Elise enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, spending time with family and friends, and trying new vegan and vegetarian food.
