PEHF: FAQs

Do I need to get a physical before I begin classes?

The pre-entrance health form is required for matriculation. The form requires information regarding immunizations and tuberculosis screening. While the form does not require a physical exam, we do recommend that you meet with your local physician before coming to school to ensure that plans are in place to ensure a smooth transition to school.

What happens if I don't meet the PEHF immunization requirements in time?

To avoid the late fee of $100, students must submit the pre-entrance health form. In addition to the late fee, a hold will be placed on the next semester's registration until the form is received. To avoid the registration hold, students must complete their immunizations. Holds are placed on October 1st. If this should occur, you may lose your ability to register for your necessary classes and access to your scholarship monies may be affected.

  • If you receive a $100 late fee on your SIS account or a hold on your registration and you'd like appeal, follow the instructions on the Appeal Form.
  • The pre-entrance health form must be submitted by uploading to our secure patient portal (requires NetBadge account). Click on “Upload” and follow the instructions.
Can I get required immunizations at Student Health and Wellness once I arrive on Grounds?

Pre-entrance health form requirements prevent outbreaks of infectious disease that could quickly spread through our close-knit campus community. Students are strongly encouraged to complete all pre-entrance health form requirements before arriving on Grounds to protect themselves and others from communicable disease.

Students may complete pre-entrance health form requirements at the Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) only after submitting the form with all available information. Please note that SHW charges for vaccinations and tuberculosis testing. Unless you have the Aetna Student Health Plan, these charges will post to your SIS account. After we have received your records, you may log on to the HealthyHoos patient portal to see if you are compliant with all requirements. To make an appointment for missing immunizations, schedule an immunization visit in the immunization clinic online or by calling (434) 982-3915.

What do immunizations at SHW cost?

Prices for each vaccination are available on our Student Charges webpage.

  • If your health insurance is not through the UVA Aetna Student Health plan, vaccine charges are billed to your SIS account: The charge(s) will be labeled as “Referred Charge.”
    • To request reimbursement for these charges, you will need to submit a claim to your insurance provider. The walkout statement (available on HealthyHoos) is your receipt for services provided by SHW. It contains the information you will need in order to obtain reimbursement from your insurance company.
  • If your health insurance is through the UVA Aetna Student Health plan, vaccine charges are submitted to Aetna by SHW on your behalf. Patients do not need to submit these claims. SHW vaccine charges are covered by the UVA Aetna Student Health plan, so you should not receive vaccine charges on your SIS account.
What are the charges for tuberculosis testing at SHW?

Prices for tuberculosis testing (PPD or Quantiferon Gold) are available on our Student Charges webpage.
