Commitment to Anti-Racism

A Statement from the Department of Student Health and Wellness
Jun 5, 2020

We, the UVA Department of Student Health and Wellness, condemn acts of racial violence and discrimination that have occurred against Black and African American people. We recognize that overt and covert racism and longstanding systemic inequities affect the well-being and success of our students, employees, and community members of color. These injustices have also contributed to a differential impact of health and financial losses, as well as sense of safety, to Black, Latinx, Asian and other minority communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health care and public health, without question, should function with social justice and equity as guiding principles. Our Department, including Counseling and Psychological Services, Medical Services, the Office of Health Promotion, and the Student Disability Access Center, as well as the Gordie Center, commits to upholding anti-racist policies and practices. We are listening and here to help.
