FAQs

Is UVA requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for the 2023-2024 school year?

For up to date information on pre-entrance health requirements, visit our PEHF website

As a UVA student, where should I get tested?
  • Self tests for COVID-19 are available at pharmacies and are online for purchase.
  • Students with COVID-19 symptoms may schedule an appointment at SHW Medical Services for medical care or testing if needed.  Please make an appointment with a Medical Services provider based on symptoms through the HealthyHoos patient portal. Medical Services reserves same-day appointments for sick students that can only be accessed by scheduling via phone, so please call 434-982-3915 if you need same day care and do not see availability online. Your health insurance provider will be billed by UVA Health for your COVID-19 test.
Does Student Health and Wellness offer treatment for COVID-19?

Yes.  For students who are eligible for treatment, SHW providers may prescribe medications.  For more information on COVID-19 treatment visit this website.

I received a positive PCR test result from a provider other than SHW. Do I need to notify SHW?

No, you do not need to notify SHW unless you have medical or isolation concerns. Please follow CDC guidelines.

How will SHW communicate with me about positive COVID-19 test results?

If you take a COVID-19 test at SHW, please make sure to check your email regularly for updates! Here is how you will find out about your test results:

  • Regardless of if your test result is positive or negative, you will receive a secure message via the HealthyHoos patient portal. You’ll receive an email notification sent to your UVA student email address letting you know that a message is waiting, and you will need to login to the portal to view the message.
  • If you had a COVID-19 test done at a testing location not affiliated with UVA, then please communicate directly with that location about their notification process.
I lost my CDC vaccine card. How can I replace it?

If you were vaccinated in Virginia, you can use VDH's Immunization Record database to print out a digital vaccine card with a scannable QR code.

Where can I get my COVID-19 booster?

You can find locations and schedule appointments for your booster here. The Student Health and Wellness pharmacy on Grounds also offers boosters, schedule your appointment through the HealthyHoos patient portal.

How can I obtain a copy of a COVID-19 test result from testing done at UVA?

Your lab result is available in both UVA Health MyChart and the HealthyHoos patient portal. To view or print a copy of the lab result from HealthyHoos, log into your HealthyHoos account and proceed to “Lab Results.”

How long do I need to isolate or quarantine for COVID?

Please follow CDC recommendations.

Do expired tests work?

If your test has expired, your results may not be accurate. However, the FDA has extended the expiration dates for certain brands of tests. You can check a test by finding the lot number and cross-referencing it on the FDA website here.
