Housing Resources

Housing insecurity can impact a student's academic and emotional well-being. Pressure to find safe and affordable housing can lead to anxiety, depression, and difficulty concentrating. Students experiencing housing insecurity may also face challenges with transportation, access to meals, and consistent internet connectivity, all of which can hinder academic performance. Moreover, the lack of a stable living environment can disrupt sleep patterns, leading to fatigue and decreased cognitive function. These factors can create a substantial barrier to academic success and overall well-being.

On-Grounds Housing

On-Grounds housing provides a stable and secure living environment, eliminating the daily stress of finding and maintaining off-campus accommodations. Residence halls offer built-in support systems, including resident advisors and campus security, which can provide a sense of safety and community. 

Off-Grounds Housing

Off-Grounds housing offers students increased independence and flexibility but often requires additional responsibilities. 

Furniture Resources 

Students in need of furniture can reach out to Care and Support Services to receive a voucher for Pete's Pick-Up Furniture Bank. The organization has a surplus of mattresses, dressers, couches, tables, and chairs available for distribution.

Community Resources 

Shelter For Help in Emergency

The Shelter for Help in Emergency offers emergency, temporary housing to victims of domestic violence in need of safety. Maximum stays at the Shelter are six weeks, with each stay evaluated in terms of the client’s danger level and available resources.

The Haven

The Haven is a multi-resource day shelter and housing resource center in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. The Haven works with several agencies and programs to connect guests to the resources they need to find housing and stabilize their lives. 

PACEM Shelter

PACEM Shelter is an organization that works with local congregations, community groups and volunteers to provide shelter and related services to the homeless.

 

Crossings Charlottesville

The Crossings is the Charlottesville area’s first permanent supportive housing community for formerly homeless individuals.

Albemarle County Office of Housing 

Albemarle County Office of Housing offers multiple types of affordable housing programs to meet the needs of low-income families.
